For my first blog post I would like to talk about how to set up a home for your bearded dragon and also some history about them. Bearded dragons are my favorite and I love taking care of them. First here are some little facts about them. Bearded dragons are native to Australia, bearded dragons were first introduced to the United States in the mid-1990s. Their popularity as pets has increased in the past two decades!

How to Set Up Your Bearded Dragon’s Home!

First before anything is you want to decide home a habitat for your bearded dragon. You can purchase a started kit that comes with the basics or simply start from scratch. Bearded dragons commonly are kept in glass tanks. Some owners also prefer to set their pets up in a cage made of from melamine, Pvc, or ABS plastic. Now after deciding what home you want for your bearded dragon it is important you pick the right size tank or cage. Baby beardies usually need a habitat at least 20 gallons in size. As your bearded dragon starts to grow you will probably need to buy a tank with bigger space, all depends on the size.

In your bearded dragons habitat you want to make sure you have full-spectrum lighting. Bearded dragons are native to the desert regions of Australia, so they require full-spectrum lighting not household lighting. Full spectrum lighting for 12 to 14 hours per day. Your bearded dragon will also need basking bulb, basking bulbs provide a source of heat for any reptile pet not just bearded dragons. Last important step is to make sure you get a thermometer that measures temperature and humidity. One side of the tank(basking side) should be warmer 90-93 degrees Fahrenheit for adult bearded dragons. The other side cooler 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Baby beardies and juveniles require different temperatures. At night turn the lights off and let the temperature drop to 70-75 degrees. It is important to get two thermometers to monitor both temperatures on both sides of the tank.
